Data Visualization is the science and art of displaying data in visual form, while data storytelling is the blending of hard data and communication. These methods of presenting data serve the purpose of getting people’s attention and relaying complex information in a simplified format.
Data Visualization And Data Storytelling For Consumer Content
Our recent generation of consumers enjoy learning, and data can be interesting if presented in the right way. Compelling data visualizations can result in shareable, powerful, branded data that can tell a strong story and drive online marketing efforts. For example, in the skincare industry and my company, in particular, user trials are done based on 32 people over four weeks to test the efficacy of the products. The data received from these trials are complex however a simple line chart showing the evolution of the variables such as deep-set lines and wrinkles, dryness and skin firmness and elasticity makes the data easier to understand for customers and seeing the progression encourages them to purchase as the data tells a strong story about the strength and validity of the products.
Consumers appreciate useful content that gives them knowledgeable insights as well as solves their problems so that they are better able to navigate the world. By extracting content from a company’s data and using it to educate your consumers, the brand provides exceptional service to the target they are trying to reach. Data storytelling also allows companies a sense of uniqueness and sets them apart from the competition. A brand can utilize their internal data to tell stories about their industry, customers, and more that no other brand would have access to. This helps the company to stand out while being compelling to the brand’s target. This allows the message to stick in the minds of the consumer by blending narrative and visuals. The data visualization allows increased comprehension, retention, and appeal, making the storyline more attractive, stimulating, and memorable to the viewer.
Simplicity is the key to data visualization. The image must communicate a single story with a simple message where the goal is straight forward, affirming, and setting the context. Data visualization and storytelling are meant to provide value and inspire viewers to take action.
